  • Really? This is ridiculous!!!

I recently purchased a laptop with vista 64 bit. Civ4 installed correctly and was working fine. However, the laptops temps were running hot and I had to give it back. I buy the same exact model...and civ4 does not install!!! All the drivers are updated, and I have the latest version of dx10! I ran disk clean up as well.

    Here is the error code.

    Error Code: -5004 : 0x80070002
    Error Information:
    >SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (3085)
    PAPP:Sid Meier's Civilization 4
    PVENDOR:Firaxis Games (##IDS_PRODUCT_URL##)
    PGUID:CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8
    $11.0.0.28844
    @Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) BT_OTHER 328.89

I have already contacted firaxis with this, but it's been a WEEK and they havent replied.

This is stupid, why the hell won't it work on the the exact same comp with exact same o/s?? I want some civ4!!!

I daresay it's not Firaxis' fault... it's either the machine or an install error. I'd seek help from where you bought the laptop.

      Vista 64

I like Vista 64 but run 32 on my gaming rig, make sure it is getting installed in the program files (x86) directory.

also try right clicking on the install.exe go to properties and compatibility run XP SP2, then right click it again a choose run as administrator.

      hope that helps

I had an issue with Vista running the game (install was fine). I found a solution at the Civfanatics technical support forum.

Civ IV runs flawlessly under 64-bit Linux, so whatever the problem is it is not Firaxis'.

              Ok...found the problem.

Turns out you have to delete the installshield folder in c:/programfiles(x86)/commonfiles. Any attempt to re-install installshield into common files results in a message saying that you do not have the right cd.

Did you find the problem or did someone explain it to you?

Civ 4 uses DirectX 9 so having version 10 is not going to make any difference whatsoever. They're completely different routines.
