  • civ keeps crashing all of a sudden.

    played three games, built the oracle each game, and the game crashed when it went to play the movie, (after tech selection).

    any ideas? i'm preparing to do a wipe and reinstall.

    I'm first curious as to weather it's only the Oracle that does this on your machine or every wonder.

    Here's some strings to search for in the .ini file that relate to movies. Mine are currently set to the default since I haven't had any problems on this machine.

    ; Dont show the game background during movies - may speed up movie playing
    HideMovieBackground = 0

    ; Don't skip frames if falling behind
    BinkNoSkip = 1

    ; Copy entire image each frame, not just dirty pixels
    BinkCopyAll = 1

    ; Show movies using hi-color, not true-color (may be faster)
    Bink16Bit = 0

    ; Copy ever other scanline during movie playback (faster)
    BinkInterlace = 0

        not related to the oracle nor stonehenge. both times the game (and subsequently computer) had crashed was when i selected 'metal casting' as my free tech.

        it seems to be running just fine now.

          I have also had crash problems recently. Over the last several weeks, the game has crashed many times, often when left standing for a period (long or short). Not related to any particular event.

          Also, when trying to run a custom game, checking "random leader personalities" has no effect - leaders always have their standard personalities.

            it's not just the game crashing, my whole machine goes kerplunk. and it's doing it again.

              apparently it was an overheating issue. i suppose i should clean the back of my machine a little bit more often.

                It was the braziers in front of the Oracle then, obviously.

                    Welcome, Maverick !

                    You´d certainly have to give us more info. It´s not XP (per se) - i can tell you that much.
