  • There is no manual on disc 3 ???

Just bought Civ IV Gold yesterday. The little printed manual that comes in the box says 'Full manual on disc 3' but there is nothing on disc 3 but a single cab file.

This seems like a very polished game, but how hard is it for a publisher to install a pdf on the hard-drive in the game folder? I do not believe I have EVER seen a game with a pdf manual that was left on the cd only.

Can anyone help me find this mysterious 'complete manual'?

    Thanks

Just use one of the fan-created manuals, such as this:
This ZIP file contains PDF providing a useful summary of: Civilizations, Leaders, Terrain, Resources, Improvements, Buildings, Wonders, Units, Promotions, Techs, etc. Booklet version (A4, 38 pairs of 76 pages) for double-side printing and folding...

      Thank you

      That's lots of good info.

I'd still like to start with a couple of thorough readings of the official manual.

      Does one exist?

I can't find it on any of the discs, despite the message on the front page of the printed manual.

i have a PDF version of the Civ IV manual - it came with the "Civilization Chronicles" box set. it doesn't cover the "Warlords" expansion, but i could send it to ya or upload it to the internet somewhere for ya.

I just found out you can download the manual of most GAMES on STEAM.

No, you don't need to install steam. Just go to the page for whatever game you're interested in and do a right-click 'save as' on the 'view the manual' on the right side of the page.

So the people selling you online games let you get a free copy of the manual without even signing up?

I've just dloaded a few manuals on games I'm curious about. 'Read before you buy' - I like it!

I´d like to get an official(ish) statement, if such an action would be legal. As i understand it, the copyright extends to the manual as well, and copying and sending it to ´3rd party´ persons is pretty much the same as copying the game and sending it to someone. Seen in this light - how long will steam be able to be so generous?

(not trying to spit into anybody´s coffee, just wondering)

When you call the publisher and they tell you to google on the net for a copy of the manual they forgot to put on the disc....it becomes a very grey area!
