BTS patching time

I just bought my second copy of Civ IV and BTS extension. My hard disk crashed and even though I still have my first copy I could not install it since it asked for the product numbers which I lost apparently.

Anyway, I ran into the same problem with my first copy when I tried to install the patch. When I clicked on the "Check for Updates" choice on the menu, it claims to download/install the update but I have no idea whether it is doing something or it simply hangs since there is no sign of any progress being done. I cannot use the 'Back' button since the program says I cannot do anything while the patch is in progress. And it is "in progress" for a long long long time.

I have high-speed DSL connection measured at 2.2Mps so my guess is that the download/installation process should take half hour or less but it just hangs for hours. The only way I can play after getting stuck with the update process is to reboot my machine.

I'm using Windows Vista. Is this a known problem with Vista ?

Not sure if it is a Vista problem or not, but a fair number of people have had prolems with the auto update. It is always best to download and install the update on your own. I hope that helps.

It worked

Well, it worked this time when I downloaded the patch and installed it. The last time I tried that (with my previous installation), it also failed due to some file permission problem so I didn't think about trying it again.
