  • Missed Tech

What are the options if you missed a tech? I did not research Masonry and now need to find marble for a Corp quest.

research masonary or trade for it, then get the marble
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

If you are in the modern age and have not researched Masonry then it's usually possible to do the research within 1 turn. You can quit researching one tech without losing the beakers spent on it, so you can switch to masonry for a turn and then switch back to whatever you were researching.
But if you can't research it, that means you have obtained the tech already. There are no techs that you can really 'miss'. Perhaps you got it from a goody hut, or from trading with another civ and overlooked it?

Marble is visible w/o the tech. Getting the tech won't reveal other instances. If you have marble, but have not hooked it up, then switch to masonry, then return to your tech chain, no problem. One of the techs before the industrial period requires masonry and corps are an industrial period phenomena, so if you are that far along, you have the tech. If not, then hit ctrl and click on masonry, and it will jump to the head of your tech chain without disrupting the chain.

To sum up all the responses so far:

It's clear you're in the modern age and don't have marble.

Personally I find it inconceivable to get to the modern age w/o Masonry tech. But if you did, then research it now.

Next step is to determine if you have marble in your empire and haven't built a quarry on it. You can turn on the resources using one of the small buttons at the bottom right of the screen. This will show the icons and you can find the marble. If you have it but don't have a quarry on top of it (maybe you have a farm or town) then send one or more workers there and build a quarry instead of that farm or town.

If you don't have any marble in your empire, then, again, use the screen (you can scroll out to an orbit view if that will help) and find where there is marble. You might be able to find some near the north or south pole. You can load a settler on a ship and send it over there to an otherwise crappy city site, and found a city purely to get the marble. Either found the city right on top of it or else send a worker along and build the quarry.

If there isn't a marble unowned by any of the other civs, then look for a marble occupied by one of your potential enemies. Build tanks, infantry, transports, and bombers. Go take the city.

            Good luck.

              There may not be any...

Also note that there is no guarantee that there will be any marble at all on the map.

I have had this happen several times, even on Large maps

I don't know how you do that, BeachCmr. Either you are playing a scenario, or you are making some selection that reduces the number of resources. I have never played a game without the presence of both stone and marble. Now, they may be on another continent, or only in the icy regions, but they are always present. I suspect some of the more intense players would love to look at a save or two of those games with no marble.
