  • Fortunately no-one noticed that I forgot to include the second comma in this sentence the first time I posted it:

This is a great deal, and one I took advantage of, Ali.
That might have led to all kinds of untrue rumours....

But that amazon link is for (roughly) $15. (Not sure about postage )
Not sure how much you can get it for in $, but it has been great value for me.

Okay, so Colonization isn't Civ per se - just a similar game using the same engine.

I understand that they've taken out Attack/Defense differentiation, is that right? How is combat calculated? Do they use the small number of discrete hit points from Civ3? Or do they use the (in my opinion) far better and more sophisticated firepower/hit points system from Civ2?

      • Every unit has 100 Hit Points. But in a battle round every unit does on average 20 damage. (That would be twenty firepower in Civ2 terms.) So a unit is dead after losing 4 to 6 rounds on average.

AKA the "you're dead" event. I have survived them, typically b/c I've been building chariots and I get the axemen one, but they're really really broken.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.
