  • Sorry but two newbie qustions

I have only just made the move from Civ3 to 4..
Got my new PC at last.
I have just played and won my first game using default settings as English Elizabeth. Single player.. It was not easy but it was fun.
Russians and Aztecs kept trying to goad me into war and landed up fighting each other.
I use the mouse for most commands and got to grips with the interface.
    BUT...
I found two points that I could not solve by trial and error.
1:The manual says That after adopting "emancipation" one can purchase for gold and improvment/unit to speed up production..
    How?
2: I have one of my Jets circling in "intercept mode" How do I change it's mode or send it else where?

I'm not sure whether your manual is wrong, or you are misreading it, but the civic that allows you to spend money to complete buildings or units is universal suffrage, not emancipation. If you are able to spend money to rush a build, the button on the bottom right of the city screen will be illuminated (in yellow, if memory serves me correctly).

and the second question, select the jet in the city as you would any other unit, and along the bottom where you'd expect to see things like 'build farm' or 'fortify' you'll see one called 'rebase'. Select that and then select the fort, carrier or city of your choice.

Carriers can have three fighers, forts four aircraft and cities four aircraft, unless they have an airport in which case they can have eight.

If you don't already have Beyond the Sword, do that today, it really is a much better version.

As for the aircrafts: You can just move them the way you move any other unit, as long as the target tile is valid (cursor is green), by right clicking. No need for the rebase-command really.

Many thanks you are right rjmatsleepers now I re-check it is the civapedia.
Next time I get universal suffrage I will look for the "hurry" yellow
          button.
I have found the reference to it on page 138 in "City Mangement Menu."
As for the jet it was a bit difficult to right click it as it is moving/circling the town. But next time I will use the city screen to give the order.

If you click once on the city name, all units in that city will appear on the bottom of the display. You can then click on any unit to give it orders. If you click on the jet, you can select rebase and move it to any other base that has room. As noted above, just clicking on the destination while the unit is selected will move it to that destination.

Note also that if you want to take the jet out of intercept mode, but not move it, you can select the unit, as explained above, and you should see a button with an eye (the same one you see when other units are fortified/sleeping). Just click that button to "wake" the jet, then choose whatever mission you want to send it on (or just put it to sleep without intercepting, if that's what you want).

I find Slavery is a far more reasonable way of rushing projects then the way-too-expensive Universal Sufferage method.
Wolfshanze Mod: for BtS... adds "flavored Civs", coal-fired navies, WWI units, plus Poland, Austria & Vietnam to Civ4!

Many thanks to all and while I am here Happy Christmas wishes to all .
johnmcd makes a reference to "beyond the sword"..?
                  Is that an expansion?
I am up in the wild north (Finland) I found the CiV 4 in a bargin box. I have not seen any sign of any expansion games in our shops.
Finns seem to only want first person shooters, or car race games, strategy is not part of their temperment. (I am not a Finn I just live here.)
I am a long time Civ fan back to Civ 1.
This version has got me hooked.
Any recommendation on which Scenario to try?
                  By the way...
I have found patches which I have applied up to 1.61
I am running on Vista, no problems so far.
Once again best wishes from a snowy Finland.

Yeah, BtS is an expansion for civ and a tremendously good expansion at that. And yes, you can get it here in Finland just as well, and I really recommend that you do. For instance, Verkkokauppa sells it for 18,90€

I was looking for BtS and found that CivIV complete (which includes warlords and BtS) was cheaper than BtS alone (at least online).

And don't worry HulluKarhu, you have a great game now anyway. When you start wishing for Civ5, install BtS and be happy again

Download the Wolfshanze Mod. (You'll need BtS first though.)

That's pretty much everywhere, but we do have a fair amount of Finns here at Poly. They are all Evil, except St. ottok. Since you aren't a Finn but live in the north I assume you're slaving away in one of their snow mines?

Finns are without doubt a special race.
Only 5 million of them..and some say: thank God there are not more...especially the Swedes

Just think what they have done...F1..currently 3 of the top drivers are Finns (OK Rosberg races as a German, his mum is German, but Dad was the first of 3 Finnish world champions.)

Top Rally drivers are breed here...if you were to look out my window any time from late October until mid March you would see why. Try diving on a semi permanent ice rink

Nokia is their largest "snow mine". Lot of non Finns work there so there is quite a large social (pub) association.

Oh and I suppose one should mention their "loverly blond women" ..my wife is one and say that I should

Finns would make a very interesting Civilazation Race.
I wonder if a future Civilazation game could have a "design your own race feature?
                            Finnish profile IMO:
They are faithfull friends,(allies), but an incredibly brave and fierce enemy.
They are excellent intelligent negotiators which makes them tops in both business and peace making.
Finns are top of the world in education so a University would need to be a must as an early development.
There would have to be another building in the game to suit Finns though "The Pub!"

One of the elements that makes any city "civilized" is the pub. Definitely an item missing in CivIV.
