  • Email question

I can't email turns using the game. It fails every time. I noticed that when I change the smtp in reverts to the wrong one when I click "ok". I watch as the games changes it back to the wrong smtp. When I change the eamil address to one I know works with the smtp the game insists on, it fails also.

    Questions:

    1) Is there a way to stop the email pop up at the end of the turn? Since it will never work I would like to avoid the pop up and email the turns manually.

    2) is there a way to get the game to accept the right smtp info with out changing it?

Not even starting a new game will change the smtp. It appears the I have an smtp for life. The game just changes it to smtp.comcast.net. It does not matter what I put in the box, the game just changes it to smtp.comcast.net. Even if I change the email address to one that uses smtp.comcast.net, it fails to send the turn.

What's up with that? I don't get it. The guy I am playing can send turns with the game.

      This one has me stumped.

TBH I just attach the saves to emails the old fashioned way.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

That's what i am doing now. I can't turn off the pop up though, since I tried to do the in game thing. I guess that's the punishment for trying this "feature." I think I am just going to quit. Multiplayer is too much trouble. I played Civ 3 by email without much problem.

I know other people do it with no problems - it does work.

I live in PNG - the ingame mailer does not like the slow connection speeds we have.

If you quit playing Civ because you are having difficulty with the ingame mailer - well thats your choice.

It works for me. I know that's not much use to you though - just that it can be made to work.

When you change the smtp are you just changing it on the end of turn pop up or are you going into the "Your Details" section on the main menu and changing it there?

The thing that puzzles me is where the comcast smtp is coming from. It isn't set as the smtp server for a default mail connection in a mail program on your computer is it?

Yes it is the default smtp server. It should work, it just doesn't. I was just manually attaching the file like I did with Civ 3. The pop up is getting to me though, it's like it's taunting me.

I didn't think about going into the Your Details section. I edited the civ.ini file, that didn't do any good.

As far as quiting Civ, I did that for about a year. I like the game and probably won't quit, I felt like it though when I type that. I would like to be able to play a pbem game without the nagging pop up.

Those details, at the setup screen? Yeah, I put it in there.

Sorry but I have no idea why it isn't working properly for you.

LB, did you PM a save to Nugog? If it works for him, we know it's one set of problems; if not, then it's a different set. Otherwise we can only sympathize, which is only useful to grieving widows and abandoned children.

I spoke too soon. There is no way to PM a turn. I just tried, you can't send attachments. Please stop posting everyone. CIV 4 BtS is not worth the effort of even playing.

In fact, kill yourself now. Or, go live on a deserted barren isle. Life in the technological age is pointless and not worth your efforts. Give up on your vulgar, futile desires and effort in "striving" and advancing your ego in this life.
