You said you had at least one city you couldn't give back. That might be the place for the airport. (?) Also, you want him to move his stack out of the city before you hit it. Sometimes, "this close" really is an almost but not quite win. In that case, load a save from before you threw away that huge stack of soldiers, open that save, and hit retire. This will give you a little higher score, I suspect. You will have a high-value loss in the set to compare to the wins in your HOF.

I went back to an earlier save so I didn't get that city this time. I managed to stop Darius from taking it the second time around so I had no cities of my own in the area, only those of my vassals.

Yeah, I thought of that but I didn't want to take the chance that he would move his stack to the cities in the south that I had just taken from him, rather than towards the French where my forces were the strongest.

I don't bother playing through on a loss, I just quit the game. Only my wins get registered in the HoF.

I actually had both. But it would probably have been better sending in the Fighters first. They'd have a better chance of destroying his Fighters, especially since mine were Jets and his were still prop planes. I hadn't quite made it to Stealth Bombers yet so the odds were still even on that score.

Care to send the save or some pics? I just got really curious. AND it would help if we can play it by ourselves and see what is happening.

Sorry, any saves are long gone.

IMO the HOF is useless, since the scoring algorithm is so biased. It makes some dubious assumptions, such as that an earlier victory is better gameplay than a later victory.

I know *I* would be happy.
