  • Quick Question.

So I have recently been playing Civ 4 and its expansions again after taking a good break from it. I noticed something while playing today that I dont quite recognize ever happening when I first started playing the game.

I built a city next to another civs borders as we were both expanding out. Then suddenly it said something to the extent that "This Civ wants 'whatever' city to be a part of their civ. At that point I can let them have the city which flips that city to theres, or I can say no.

What is that all about and what are the pros and cons of telling them yes or no.

    Thanks.

P.S. Sorry that wasnt "quick" as posted in the topic

I never give up my cities this way (or any way, willingly at least). The pro is that the other civ will be happy with you i.e. you get a positive relationship modifier with them. Having never done it, I don't know how much of a boost it is. The down side is you lose the city, of course.

Sometimes it becomes quite annoying as the same city keeps asking over and over every 20 turns or so. I want a I SAID NO! option.

Basically it's telling you that you aren't building enough culture creating buildings in that city. If you expand your boundaries and make more of a cultural impact on the neighbouring tiles, then those messages should eventually go away. Should.

The annoying part is when it happens the turn after I create the city with one of my own settlers. What do you mean they want to 'rightfully' join the civ next door? Sheesh!

And the odd time I've given up a city that way (usually because its going to fall in a war anyways so let someone else have it), I've only gotten a +1 relations modifier, so definitely not worth it, IMHO.

There should be an option to make an example of the mayor.

New mayor, do you want to join another civilization? No? I thought not.
