  • PBEM issue with Steam version of CIV4: BTS

Hey there, I hope one of you clever guys or gals can help me with a problem I have trying to play a PBEM game of CIV4 - BTS (Steam version).

When I play a PBEM game of "vanilla" CIV4 I just double click on the file sent and away I go. Now with PBEM for BTS (Steam version) I double click on the file sent to me and it has no file association. The only two I can find are:

    Civ4BeyondSword.exe
    Civ4BeyondSword_PitBoss.exe

I’ve tried opening the saved game turn with both of these files but all it does is opens the game to the main menu not the specific turn I have been sent. Does anyone know what executable file I should be associating with this to open straight from my e-mail? I appreciate that I could copy and paste the file into the correct folder then run the game, but is a hassle I could do without to be honest.

    All feedback gratefully appreciated.

works fine for meh, tho i used have that issue with my steam bts and pbem files as well, but one of the updates sorted me, have you set automatic updates in steam (tho this caused another issue of PBEM games broken during mid patch, i dont want to dwell on that i lost the admin pass and game had to be ditched).

my file association for civbeyondsordsave is
    E:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 8800 /FXSLOAD="%1"

      Many thanks for your feedback.

I've tried creating a short-cut to run the saved game with the details below but it just says that it is not a valid win32 application.

Any further advice would be much appreciated as I only bought the game to play it PBEM.

        no problem,

firstly i had assumed a certain profciency with windows by your initial post, i may have been mistaken.

i got the file association by opening
windows explorer > clicked menu Tools > Folder Options > clicked on tab "File Types" > Find the file type (at work but i think its Civ4Beyondsavefile or something like that)
        > clicked the advanced button > Selected the Open entry on the left side list > clicked the edit button.

        thus i got
        'E:\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 8800 /FXSLOAD="%1"'

the E:\Steam\Steam.exe refers to my home PC , obviously its different in yours. change that shortcut to your steam exe, not any of the civ exe's.

-applaunch 8800 i imagine is standard, im by no means certain of this.

the /FXSLOAD="%1" portion represents the file name of the file you double click. this changes every time you double click a different file.
