  • Different tech costs by traits?

I noticed something for the 1st time yesterday. I was playing Tokugawa, and had a choice between agriculture and archery. Both were cost 0/144(epic), no points rolled into either yet. But the listed time to research archery was 7 turns while AGRI was 9 turns!? There was also another identical cost set of techs, one was less turns than the other.

Today I played Sitting Bull and had the same thing happen but the reduced research time was Scientific Method (6), vs another tech which I forget but was 7 turns.

It seems that the quicker techs in both cases were associated with the leader's traits. Is that what causes this? Has this been reported before? I'm playing 3.17 BtS.

That's because you gain a bonus to research when researching a tech another leader (or other leaders*) has (and it differs by the number of civs holding that tech). Also, if you have both optional (or all 3 optional, or 2 of 3, or whatnot) prereqs to a tech that has multiple optional prereqs, you gain a bonus. Both are reflected as a bonus to research, not as a discount on beakers needed.

Hmm ok. No one had Sci Meth at the time, I'll have to x2 check the prereq thing. Thanks!

I don't have them, usually it only makes 1 turn difference stated which is within margin of error considering what the economy should be producing a few turns from then.
