I for one turn the barbs off I don't want to deal with them. They can take their 10 xp and stick it. I basically just want to peacefully expand until I but into the other nations

Having the barbs on actually helps me as it forces me to build units. If they're turned off I keep building other things in the hope that no-one will attack until suddenly a stack appears on my border and it's game over...

I agree - without some threat of barbs I never build any army, which can be tricky when I do bump into the next Civ.

In fact, I think that playing with Rampant Barbs is easier than not. I handle the barb threat better than the other AI, and it means I develop a decent army, which I should do but never get round to otherwise.

Barbs can be very annoying indeed. I just played a game when a bunch of barb axemen payed me a visit. My puny archers couldn´t do much to avoid them from razing my resources

On the other hand I would never turn them off. Playing CIV for so many years, I see them as an integral part of the game - and by the way you can steal a barb city without getting into diplomatic issues with an AI civ.

Its one of those things which seems so clever I almost feel guilty doing it!

              I wuv the Great Wall!

I enjoying playing with Barbs/Raging Barbs but i do lose it when they kill a settler who is on his way to make a new city. That drives me mad. It's usually my fault for not sending protection.

I like Raging Barbs too - it's make the early game just a little more interesting. Sometimes I have to try not build the Wall, too, to get the full effect

Yeah, but on Marathon its gets annoying. The never ending onslaught of Barbs which prevent you from improving & growing your empire. So the Great Wall is hard to pass up.

With raging barbs on, it should also have been an option that would grant units >10XP and Great Generals points.

No, too easy to keep farming them in my opinion.

Hmm, maybe you're right, but I think there should be some more reward than 10 lousy XP if you fight off a lot of barbs. That's battle too....

Barbs should be pretty easy if you focus on getting horses or bronze as fast as possible.

I like them barbs a lot! They are the salt and pepper for the early game though sometimes they are a paaain...

With GW, they pass you by and harrass any AI trying to get close to you. Kind of like bribing them to hit your nearest neighbor. However, it does seem like a bit of an exploit to turn on raging barbs and then rush to build the Great Wall. Based on its programming, the AI really doesn't know what level of storm is coming. Admittedly some exploits are more fun than others.
