  • GP percentages w/o Wonders?

    Does anyone know the formula for calculating the percentages likelihood of the various GPs from a city that has only specialists? That is, there are neither national nor world wonders in the city to affect the type of GP given, just specialists.

    Does the GP point given by a specialist carry with it the type of specialist that contributed? That is, if I have a science specialist active in the city for 8 turns, and then switch him to an engineer for two turns, am I 80% likely to get a scientist, and 20% likely to get an engineer?

    In the late game, I find myself wanting one type of GP over another (think Great Artist for Civilized Jewelers), and let's say it's only my National Park city (with no other wonders) which is close to generating a new GP.

    How can I predictably influence the type of GP?

    It's just the accumulated points. So, if you have 100 points for the current specialist, and:

    20 -> Science specialist
    80 -> Merchant specialist

    Then it's 20% G.S. / 80% G.M.

    You cannot change it once it's accumulated, though - so if you have a city that is at 1295 GPP out of 1300, you will get whatever is already coming, as you can only influence 5/1300 points, or <1% of chance.

    IIRC, the full formula is 50% specialists, 50% wonders, each separately accumulated; so if you have 100 points, and 80 came from wonders, 20 from specialists:

    Wonders: 40 from Pyramids (GE), 20 from Parthenon (GA), 20 from Artemis (GM)

    Specialists: 20 from Priest (GP)

    Your chances are not 40% GE, 20% GA, 20% GM, 20% GP, but rather 25% GE, 12.5% GA, 12.5% GM, 50% GP. I'm not 100% sure of the exact mechanics, though.

      That's a huge step closer to me understanding how it works. I had suspected that it was in fact cumulative based on how many points (and of what type) had accumulated so far.

      Thanks.

        You know about the little pop-over box that shows you the GP %'s accumulated so far, right?

          I've seen the popup, but I wasn't sure (at the time) that it was a cumulative chance. Instead, I thought that it reflected the probabilities as they stood after the last turn, i.e. if I changed all my artists to engineers, that next turn the percentages would reflect that state. I think I understand now how it works....

            Yeah, the popup is a cumulative chance - you'll notice it changes very little when you're close to the end.

              No - points are points. The flavor of the points is determined by the flavor of the source, but there is no difference between 6 priest points generated by two specialists and 6 priest points generated by three great wonders.

              Prior to BTS, GP generation was more complicated; this is what snoopy369 has almost remembered.

              There is one somewhat weird twist in the current mechanic: points left over after a GP is spawned (ie, the overflow) lose their flavor.

                VOU, I have noticed that the leftover points lose their specialty. The new accumulation was quite different than the previous, and the over was 12+ points, yet turn 2 post-generation the distribution reflected only the 10 post-gen points distribution for all 22 points.
