  • Can't Fish?

I had acquired Sid's Sushi House (aggressively) and begun to acquire tons of fish, crab, etc.

Then I noticed that I had some seafood specials in my territory I hadn't exploited. I started by building workboats and auto-farming them, until I realized I had six boats just sitting there.

So then I manually took them out to the resources and--whaa? No fish options?

At this point, I had about eleven fish, seven or eight crab, etc.

    What gives?

You probably already had workboats on them. If you automate your workboats, they probably had done it on there own without your knowledge.

If there is already a "fishing boat" at the location, it is already done. Nets are shown only if it is being worked by a city.

It sure didn't seem like it. I mean, I saw the little "city's working it" graphix but not the big net.

Do I have that backwards? The big net appears when you put the workboat on it, right? And the little boats for when the city is working it?

Over your mouse over the tile - when it says in red letters ´workboat required´ on the lower left, then you dont have a workboat working there.

The big net is city working and workboat. Little boats are city working or workboat when city isn't working the tile.

Big nets don't always appear on the map. However, if you hover the arrow over the resource it will say "fishing boats" or "fishing boats required." The little boats appear in any city's BFC in any water tile it is working, quite independent of the resources available.

They also appear outside the BFC if there is a resource that has a fishing boat attached.

But yeah, it's easier just to hover over.

Huh. Hmmm. I'll have to check it. Thanks, guys.

Oh, I see what happened. I had the resource balloons up and couldn't see the little fishing boat behind it.

                  Mystery solved.

If you have the button on, you'll know w/o even having to hover over it.

Thebans solution will work. However, it makes the map very messy. Also, with it off, any time a settler is available becomes blindingly obvious as the whole map blooms , , and . Pretty neat visual when used in moderation.

Remind me not to ask you for suggestions on contrast/brightness settings for my monitor.

You get used to it. Plus I like being able to see what tiles my cities are working w/o having to go into the city screen. I usually have the whole mess on: grid, F/H/G icons, resource icons, civ info, interface. Nowdays I try to turn off the grid and later the resource icons once everything is settled.

btw you guys can't call me 'Theban' anymore b/c some guy in the Spanish forums registered with that name. How am I supposed to know who you are talking to?

Hmm, might have to try that.

Obviously you aren't aware of how badly people have mangled my name. Which is strange, if you've been here since 2000. A stop in the OTF should give you a clue that it's not just you.
