What's goin' on. I was reading around the forum and I love it. I love trying new things and seein' what other people are up to in the Civ4 world.

Here's the the deal. I saw a thread about a guy having a 'problem' with overpopulation. Is it really THAT big of a deal?

I mean, I know it is for ME because I have a mental issue that prevents me from wanting to see the little green and rd faces on my city info thingys. But that's just me... =[

On the other hand. I do LOVE the whole "We love the :insert civic leader: day" Makes me smile.

    So the questions...
--1-- Is overpopulation really that big of a deal?... so long as you can feed those cats?
--2-- Does "We love the ::sigh:: :insert civic leader here: day" really do anything for me other than make me smile?
--3-- My general unexplained question. Has anyone ELSE seen the Ai make 3 units in an isolated 1 population city in 1 turn without, even, slavery? Or was that bastard cheating?

Thanks for the info in advance ^_^

    Welcome to Apolyton!

    1. No it's not a big deal. It just means you need to find more ways to keep the people happy as the city gets bigger.
    2. "We love the ? day" means that you don't pay maintenance in that city whiole they're celebrating. There's a chance it happens if the city's big enough and has no unhappy or unhealthy citizens.
    3. That doesn't happen, they must have come from somewhere. maybe a ship or they were airlifted in.

In defense of the Ai it WAS a coastal city. But I kid you not 3 archers popped into that bad boy. I've been talkin' to my friend who plays to try and figure out how the 'puter did that. It'd be a nice little trick to know THAT early in the game even if it does have severe drawbacks. That was on ....hmmm.... third from the most difficult setting. But I never saw a boat =[.

I'm pretty excited about that no maintenance thing. Thanks for the info. I usually get quite a few of them celebrating for a while. And now I also understand the flux in my cash. Been wondering why it's up and down. REALLY helpful guy. Thanks again.

How early in the game was it?

Errr... hard to say. I play on the longest setting... epic is it?

But, that said. only a few other civs had even tech'd to Bronze working. The only reason I had it was because I picked it up from some 'Hut Villagers'...

Ghandi was kind of in my way. Do I thought I'd clear that city and be cool with 'im. I checked the event history for the sole reason of seeing if he'd switched to slavery. Did not. So I rolled in with 2 archer 2 warriors and an axeman. Against 2 archers I thought it was a bit of overkill but it was a hills city.... better safe than sorry. About a 12 turn march to his house. 12 turns to build mine on copper. I forget how many to build that axeman... but I already had the archers and warriors. And 2 other cities.

Sorry for the goofie explanation of how early it was in the game. How did he do it?

I'd assume he moved them in from somewhere you weren't paying attention. It's impossible for the AI to just suddenly get three more units (you can check the code!), so something was there you weren't seeing.

I'm my anger... in retrospect I completely understand that I was unreasonable to assume he didn't walk them there. But he had to have been psychic to know I was comin' to stick it to 'im. I don't know where the rest of his land was but it wasn't close enough for me to see another cultural boundary.

To go from 2 to 5 archers on a hill city... =[... hurts my face. I couldn't see PAST the city at all. But I could see the water, I was on one side and he had to other civs filling up the other coast so.... there's possibility he came from the other side.

Snoop... you're supposed to tell me his magic. Now I feel as though I wasn't careful enough. ^_^. And I consider myself to be pretty not bad in being careful and what-not.

It's in your profile in the control panel

The AI is quite clever with his defensive troops. It's not uncommon to see a city reinforced when you don't expect it to be.

The AI can see and does pay attention to the Power graph. If you all of a sudden grow to 2x the power graph, you bet he'll reinforce his cities that border you. This is undoubtedly what happened.

                    Better luck next time.

                      Yeah ::sigh::

I won't be able to play for a couple months but I got a serious desire to play =[. So I'll be thinkin' a lot about civ and comin' up with all kinds of scenarios and questions. And it excites me already to thing of a few of you guys' responses.

As noted by the others, welcome aboard. Questions like yours give us a chance to think out loud and talk to each other about basic concepts. I for one, think I have things figured out until I come here and see ways to inprove suggested in almost every thread.
