Hereditary dynasty died out?

I've seen many messages in-game, but this one is new to me. What does this mean:

"The Byzantine heridatery dynasty has died out. A new faction has claimed the throne and is off to a roaringly successful start".

Is there a list somewhere that tells what all of them mean?

It is a random event. If it happens to you you can chose how the succession is to be decided. Depending on what you chose you get a free settled great person in the capita. If the religious leaders decide the next king/emperor one gets free prophet, if the military generals fight for power and succession one gets a free great general and so on.

Basically the Byzantines got a free great person settled in their capital.

Is it a GP? Many events give just regular specialist. I guess that might depend on the event.

(edit. checked the random event list, yes many events give settled GP's as well)

I've gotten that. Would have been more fun, if I'd gotten a random new leader. (Like from Gandhi to Genghis.) Would have woken me up, needing to rethink my strategies.

Yeah that would keep it interesting. You'd keep your UU an UB but your characteristics would change.

You must be running the 'Hereditary Rule' civic and get a choice of:
Great General
Great Merchant
Great Prophet

I wonder, there is a mechanism in place, to give a bunch of cities a new, random leader. The basic colonization, "X has placed Y in charge of his overseas colonies". Could that mechanism be applied to the whole empire?
