Weird vassalage event

I was just playing a game where I took a city from the Korean's Wang Kon. I then asked for his vassalage, some money and some techs. He capitulated and became my vassal.

Now in the same turn as the event messages were scrolling on the screen it was announced that Kon had become a vassal of Hammurabi. Sure enough, Kon is no longer my vassal, but I got the techs and money.

What just happened?

There are some autosaves, but damn if I know which one it might be, or if I've played on long enough that the relevant one may have disappeared.

Couldn't be that. He capitulated when he had one city left. I think it must be a bug. I considered reloading at the time, but decided I'd just take both him and his lord out.

Not as Weird, but

I just creamed Isabella but she still had 5 cities left and I just couldn't put the finishing touches on her. She was on a different continent and I was losing money like crazy and I was building another armada to finish her off. I figured I would make peace and by the time the 10 turns went by, my fleet with about 40 more units would arrive. BOOM, as soon as I made peace she vassaled to the #2 civ (I was #1) and even the 40 units coming would not be able to take positions to destroy her. She was more or less on the left of me and Sitting Bull was on the right. An attack would be a 2 front war. Now I have all these units and nowhere to go!

Seriously, a possible explanation to the original question:

- if you vassalise it may be that the AI also accepted vassalage to somebody else on the same turn. (Reminds me of a game in which I paid somebody o make peace with Washington. The very next thing to happen was Washington appearing to ask me to join the (now ended) war. I guess the CPU processes all this stuff at the end of the turn? It would explain Washington asking me to join in a war when his war had just ended. It would also explain the original posters vassalage proble.

Yes, that's been my best guess as well. Too bad it prioritized the other AI's request ahead of mine. ...

I agree to the weird part. Technically, in terms of move order, it appears that all AIs move after you do as they wait until you are done. The Isabella trick is quite common in my experience. I crush an AI but cannot finish them for a time longer than I can reasonably afford. I take peace to position the troops and the AI, who would not capitulate to me, immediately capitulates to another strong power.
