suddenly - no mouse in game

Tried to continue a game of vanilla Civ 4. When opening screen came up - mouse is completely inoperative. Nothing. Mouse works fine in all other applications. Tried uninstlaling and reinstalling Civ with latest patch. Still no mouse. Happened right out of the blue. Game has been playing fine for months.
Any ideas?

There are a few mouse settings in the INI file, you could check there. Otherwise ... maybe it's a video driver issue?

Do you have the current DirectX?
