  • Is this a good starting location?

After a lot of restarts, the following location looked the most interesting. A bit to the left is stone and an undefended city so a good place.

But what do you think? A good starting spot or maybe keep it for later?

what was that 4 sea food, a cow, and a floodplain.

Yes, I'd play that... Generate lots of great scientists asap and settle them. That will be 1 super city, especially after you build your dike. Imagine a dike + mois statues. But that city needs national epic and oxford.

scratch that, 5 sea food. thats a god city.

Settle them in another city...or reload the world builder save and play it as an OCC...

Yeah I wanna play that one as OCC. I don't know what map type it is, but it seems winnable at really high difficulties.

                Attached the save game.
I was wrong about 1 thing. The stone IS to the left, but the rival cities are too far away to get there before defense is built.
                The game is on Noble,Pangea,Dutch,Huge,Marathon.

exams? Ehm, ages ago I guess

I guess I quit playing civ4 for a long time. First I was busy with exams, then with other stuff, then with WoW for a while. Ah well

Dunno, with all the resources you have it's unlikely you have copper or iron nearby...

That city doesn't need Oxford. With the floodplain to the northeast it's likely there's more that direction, which would make a good CE city. Just send the scientists up there.

It does need Nat Epic tho.

Guess what, a few turns into this game, a pasture (for the cows) was built with a road automatically and a few turns after that, a goldmine spawned inside the city radius!
This must be my best start ever.

My 'best starts' usually wound up with either bad land surrounding me or me nerfing it.

Very good city spot: It looks like probably your best science & commerce city.

It's unlikely though to be a good hammer city (unless of course you locate Moi Statues here).

What I'd probably do is research Fishing first (if you don't start with it). Then I would build the 2 Fish Work Boats, next a regular worker, then the 3 Clam Work Boats, after which this city would send out two or three setlers immedately.

Then if you don't found a religion by the time the first settler founds a city, I would build Moi Statue here.
