Hello,
I know that this idea has been whispered about on the forums before but I thought I'd bring it out into the open for discussion.
Having played loads of games of Civ 4 I'm starting to develop a comfortable winning strategy which works 9 times out of 10 because there's often little real variety between games in my opinion. I would quite like to see some big events put into the game which would really shake things up so that I'd be forced to adapt my strategy from time to time.
I know that many people don't want such events for precisely the reason that I do i.e. they're game changing and therefore can ruin your plans for victory. However, I think it would add a refreshing change to the game. Any thoughts?
I had a few ideas, off of the top of my head, of the sort of events that could be added:
Religious schism (as discussed in another thread about random event religions)
Civil war (effectively you would create an angry 'vassal' state from your own cities)
Natural disasters (fairly self-explanatory)
Coups (this idea needs some fleshing out but basically it would be enforced civis changes for x number of turns, i.e. your civ would suffer a right-wing coup and suddenly you have to run police state, theocracy etc etc)
Multi-stage diplomatic events (not even sure if this is possible but I think it'd be cool to have branching events where your responses to the previous stage dictate your options for the next, handle it really badly and you suffer a total breakdown in your relations with a particular Civ)
Misfiring nukes
Anyway, these are just some ideas. Of course they should be able to affect the AI as much as the player.
By the way, I'm no modder so I have no idea if any of what I've said is feasible.
