  • How to I turn a city into a colony?

First, is the Domestic Advisor the screen brought up by the F1 key? Why isn't it labelled "Domestic Advisor"? Amd of ot os. where's the button to turn the city into a colony?

If it isn't, how do I get to the domestic advisor?

You can't turn ONE city into a colony AFAIK. You have to have at least I believe 2 (possibly 3?) cities.

Yes. You need 2 or more cities on another landmass to create a colony.

The F1 key does indeed bring up the Domestic Advisor.

You will see a red fist in the lower right corner of the Domestic Advisor screen. Click on it to create colonies, liberate cities, etc.
And indeed there will be time To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?". t s eliot

Thanks. Why would they make it 2 or more and not just 1 or more?

It might have something do with the cost issue.

I thought if you only had one city on another landmass, the expense wasn't too great. But that if you had a second city, the costs grew dramatically.

One city on another landmass costs nothing. Two is pretty cheap also; even three is manageable, but 4+ is pretty harsh.

3 or less natural city sites if it were on your landmass: Treat normally.

If there are 4+ of them though it's time for looser city placement than it would be in your own landmass.

              But otherwise

4 Is only harsh if you don't have courthouses, but manageable with them.

5 You probably want a FP (or Verselles) on the landmass in addition to courthouses in all of them to make it manageable. (You also don't want the teraign to be horrid)

6+ Candidate to turn part or all of the landmass into a colony.

Also, I've heard of a few cases where it's desirable to actually relocate your palace to another landmass if your own starting one is small. (Build the FP on your starting landmass)
