Yes, it is the double post addressing an issue I've already addressed with a copy and paste from a months old thread. Don't try this at home, I'm a professional.

As far as teching and financial leaders go:

Reminds me of the game on Warlords where I was relatively isolated on one side of a pangaea, and Musa, Victoria, Wang Kon, and Ragnar were all on the other side and were the same religion. They got a tech lead on me. A significant tech lead.
    It didn't save them.

Congrats on your win. You really crushed them. Now about that Warlords game you just mentioned, how did you beat so many opponents while being well back on research? I find that if that's the case for me, I just call it a loss and restart another game.

Well, as I said, they were on the other side of a pangaea, so I didn't have to worry too much about them attacking me. Once I realized that they were going to out tech me no matter what I did, I just built massive stacks and charged in. Even though my units were outdated, collateral damage+numbers=victory. Since they were financial, they had cottage spammed their territory, and thus didn't have much production for units. And CR3 macemen can beat musketmen and even riflemen if they've had enough trebs thrown at them. (trebs were better in warlords) Once I had taken one of them down, I had a bunch of cottaged cities helping me tech, and they had lost one member of their little trading club, so I was able to get even at that point.

I just came to this thread, read it with some interest and then DL the starter save to give it a try myself, trying to follow Krill's path. Just curious as to why the OP turned off random events and vassal states? Might as well play Civ vanilla ...

I didn't have the luck Krill had with huts, which set me back a little from his DAR. Got a scout, another scout, a map (of the ocean) and a scout promotion. Popped one hut for 31 gold.

Mansa also proved to be a pain in the butt because he got to feudalism by the time I had ground the Mongols to dust, so attacking him with WC wasn't really a plan.

Interesting map, but would have been nice to get a capitulation out of Mansa rather than having to sue for peace after taking five of his cities.

When I first got BTS I played with random events and vassal states on. Then it got too infuriating with all the conveniently timed (for the AI) negative events and vassal state capitulations, so I turned them off. I may yet come back to them once/if I've improved my gameplay.

What sort of force (size and composition) did you use to take his cities given his military tech lead on you?
