City specialisation: micro-manage or automate?

I always micromanage my specialists.
Workers are to be automated later in the game. Specialists aren't. If not only for the fact that you don't want unwanted Great People to show up.

In which case you don't want to upgrade it until you have the warlord on it. In fact, you can plan ahead on which units you want to give warlords to and go ahead and let them accumulate as many xp as they can get.
