Also, how about being able to "terraform" again.
Yeah, I'd like to water tiles with land on seven sides designated 'natural harbours' that give a city founded on them an extra trade route, for example.

There should be clusters of tiles, which when pulled out of the hat, give additional advantage.

In Colonization, conifer forests yield 6 lumber per turn while deciduous forests (broadleaf, tropical) yield 4 lumber per turn. I'm not sure why.
AFAIK stuff grows faster the more sun it gets. Therefore tropical > deciduous > coniferous growth rate.

Pine trees (coniferous) grow faster than oak or maple(decidious). Rain forest trees are worth less....but grow faster.

Why are rainforests chopped down IRL? For wood, surely, and fertile ash. I'd love to see chopping jungle give foodbonus similar to the shield bonus forests give.

I believe rain forests are traditionally chopped down for the land they grow on...

Soja and oil palms ate the biggest threats to the rain forests at the moment, not logging.

Except of course some cheap box store from Sweden that paid the Chinese government off to cut down rain forest trees to make into cheap futons and kitchen table sets...not to mention teak wood sculptures...

I gave the navigable rivers thing a thought... it would have to be at least one tile large... so how do you cross it ? With a bridge. Yes, but you cannot send a worker on a water tile. So you would have to create bridges with a working boat ? Or even as a building in a city next to the river ? Keep in mind that you need the construction tech to build bridges.

So... would the navigable rivers be a natural, uncrossable border until it's in someones cultural borders so that he can tame it? Interresting idea after-all since i agree with the person complaining the lack of the first X in this game.

The only way to cross it before the construction tech would be a boat...

About the tile itself... same thing as lakes ? A coastal city next to a navigable river would be really interresting in this case... lots of and lots of ... Assuming you get some plain hills in addition to that, this would really be a war-worthy slot. But it's great ! I like that.

EDIT: There could even be 2 or 3 tiles large rivers, what would make it even more complicated to build bridges, especially with the work-boat solution if this consumes the boat, keeping in mind that you cannot select units beeing in different tiles at the same time. With the building-solution, it could simple raise the amount of needed.

It could be easier than this.

Forts now are land squares which can take ships. This is all you need for a navigable river. The advantage with this is also that the fort sits on top of the terrain, so you can easily get your navigatable river with whatever terrain you want underneath.

So all you would need to do is to create a 'duplicate' of the fort called 'navigatable river', change the image to something more watery, and change it so that you can link more than two together. And then of course get a map script to put them on.

You would also need to get them to provide fresh water, and i suppose a number of other things 'river' qualities.

You could also give them some bonuses as well - at least the 1 commerce which a normal river gives, maybe more.

If you wanted to you could make them difficult to cross, at least until certain techs, but i wouldn't. There are very few rivers which formed a barrier for people in sort of time scales which civ runs on.

Food bonus? They should give a hammer bonus slightly smaller than the forests.

Personally I think jungle should be the same as forest, with -1 food until removed, and with the discovery of either medicine or ecology they should give
                          +1 coin.

Jungle tiles are crapped on in this game.
