  • "Extra" spies?

At first I thought I was just seeing things or had a city set to route spies to a second city, but no, it really does appear that I'm getting "extra" spies.

What's happening is that one of my cities (and I've now seen this in three games or so) is having a spy built every several turns or so even though I'm not building any spies there (so I'm getting a free spy plus whatever I'm actually building!). I could have missed it, but I don't recall that bonus being explained anywhere in the game.

Anyone else seen or heard of this? Is it a bug?

Perhaps the AI is gifting them to you for some strange reason.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I've heard reports about some people getting "free" units every couple of turns despite having the city set to be building something else. It's almost as if the city is trying to build two things at once but the hammers are going to what you are actually trying to build and you get the other thing for free.

I'm pretty sure it's yet another undocumented 'feature' of 3.13.

Wow! How come this has never happened to me?

Does it happen for a certain leader or civ?

NFIH, who are you playing as?

It's happened to me in several games with the Ethiopian leader Zara Yaqob and now once (so far) with the Egyptian leader Hatshepsut.

It's certainly possible the AI is gifting them to you, but I'd suspect a python bug (do you ever play scenarios?). I'd consider a reinstall if you have time, or perhaps passing the save to another player and see if it still happens.

No, I'm only playing stock BTS patched to 3.13. Never played a scenario.

If I'm being gifted spies should I be getting a screen telling me as much, or not?

Anyway, I don't think they're gifts because they're much too regular in frequency once they start occurring--in one game I was getting a new spy every three or four turns! It was quite bizarre.

By the way, speaking of patches, I'm not playing with this fan-made patch (also labelled 3.13, I believe) as yet. Can I install that straight over the official 3.13 patch or do I have to uninstall the official 3.13 patch first? (I'm hoping that will solve it as I'd rather not have to go through a full re-install.)

You would add Bhruic's to 3.13 - it is not a replacement, but an enhancement, essentially.

Gifts could very well be quite regular Either way I suggest posting a copy of the save on here (right before you're to be gifted a save), i'm curious if it's specific to you or not.

OK, I'll try to remember to get a save. Only problem is I never know exactly when I'm about to get the "free" spy so I'm not sure I'd ever be able to save it at the right time except by chance (or maybe I could use one of the autosaves).

Autosaves are a good idea Otherwise just do a save and see when the next one pops up, and tell us how many turns down the line and what city.
