  • Decaying Railroads

Has anyone else experienced the problem of "decaying railroads"? What I mean is I build a railroad on a plot. Many turns later I will sometimes find the RR gone, and a highway in its place.
And indeed there will be time To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?". t s eliot

    You sure it wasn't pillaged?

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Pretty sure, the mine was still there.

In whose territory was the square? If you build a railroad in your territory and it switches to the ownership of someone who doesn't have railroad yet and no open borders with you, it might switch over. I don't recall seeing this happen specifically, but I have seen roads look like dirt in the territory of someone who hasn't reached the Industrial Age yet and immediately look like highways when the territory is within my borders.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

          Maybe a tornado took it?

No it was in my territory, which was always my territory. I know what you're saying about roads, and it wasn't that.

It's possible, but it left the mine if it did so.

Do you have a before/after save file of this sort of thing?

No. By the time I notice, the old autosaves are overwritten. I didn't notice it in my last game, nor in my current game so far. Maybe it was an event like the Blizzard.

It could be an event, it's certainly not normal. You can have the autosaves save indefinitely, it's an option in the .ini file

And definitely set at least 1000 saves, and autosave every turn!

You're not playing as England are you?

Perhaps in a nod to real life the railways have some periodical disaster. Or maybe there is 'engineering work on the lines' and the rail service is replaced by a bus service?

Exactly, its the 'wrong sort of leaves' event.
