  • Unit support question

Does having units in unclaimed territory cost additional upkeep in the same way as having them in foreign territory? Also is barbarian territory treated the same as foreign territory?

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

Yeah, would be cool to see my missile cruiser go whale hunting.

It's actually only recently I found that it costs more in neutral territor also. First thought was that is was stupid, but it's actually only a way to simulate the support needed for those units I'd guess.

Sorry, could you expand on that? What do you mean by 'neutral' territory?

The reason I ask, I am currently playing a game where I am going for a Domination Victory, but the civs I am targeting for the necessary territory are bordered by my vassals. If 'neutral' territory means another civ's territory then it would cost me more to stage my invading forces in my vassal's lands than my own?

You do not incur unit supply costs in your own borders, nor within your vassals' borders with BtS 3.13. BEFORE 3.13, you did within your vassals' borders.

You can easily check this out for yourself: Check your F2 unit supply costs, then take a group of more than four units (even workers) from within your own borders to one of your vassal's and compare with your F2 (should be no difference). Now compare again after taking the group outside of the borders of your own civ or any of your vassals.

I have a quick question, what do they mean when they say 10 FREE units?

No support costs up to that number. Eleventh and so on cost money.
