  • Combos you like

This thread is meant to talk about Leader/Civilisation combos you like, without necessary saying "this one rocks".

The most efficient gameplay i ever experienced was a dutch darios on an archipelago map.
The most easy feeling at a beginning was almost certainly a Catherine of sumerians... extention like hell...
The combo i actually like the most is a babylonian churchill, not only because i like the historical figure, but because of the good synergy UU/prot and UB/char .

    What's your's ? ^^

PS : Excuse my english please

    Welcome to the forums Vampgelus.

I have yet tried the unrestricted civ and leader combos. I'm still working my way through all the leaders.

Ditto, although if I was I would like to try Bodica of the Romans.

That would be a terrifying warmonger civ.

            /me runs and hides

One Oromo would be worth two musketmen probably literally...

Definitely rush straight to gunpowder, and then field multiple conquering armies at once

Oromos don't benefit from Protective that much. "All" they'd get extra would be Combat 1 and CG 1. I'd rather go with Churchill. Also if one is to beeline muskets, the Ottomans are in my opinion a better choice since if you get them first, you'll be in a position where you dominate everything else on the field. Adding protective bonus to that would be just gravy. One can reach gunpowder by 500 AD with a proper beeline.

Anyways, I don't like unrestricted leaders and the only time I tried it was to see how good Boudica of the Romans would be. Conquest 1700 AD. She was good.

Boudica of the Romans is a bit, um, top heavy, shall we say? Nice to try for sheer warmongerage, but having a mix of traits is good.

Like Brennus (Ch/Sp) with, well, almost any civ. Sumerians, for example. Vultures have 6 and Ziggurat comes with Priesthood and takes 25% less than a courthouse.

I don't particulary like HRE's Charlemagne (Im/Pr), so replace him with, say, Napoleon (Ch/Or) and get faster building of the Rathaus (-75% maintenance, babycakes).

Boudica actually goes well with the Ethiopians: Oromo Warriors get free Combat I, and Charismatic helps the Stele. I may have to try it.

War Chariots are a nice UU; take a Charismatic leader to boost the Obelisk.

Yes, yes you have. That strategy is a gem.

Also, thinking of some combinations of traits, UU's and UB's that would synergize well with each other this one comes to mind:

Churchill of the Native Americans. Boost to Totem Poles from Charismatic, faster promotions to all units, including Archery and the same Protective bonuses they have from Sitting Bull. Add Feudalism/Theocracy/1 Settled General and you're churning out troops with 8 Experience which means Archery units with Drill 4 / CG 1 or other combinations. AAHZ should try this

The benefit of Oromos over Janisaries is when you upgrade them

Still just Drill 2 over Drill 1; Which is not groundbreaking at any rate. But I suppose every little bit counts and Janissaries do require a beeline in order to make use of them and as shown us by Hauptmann, they dominate the field for a good period of time.

Don't get me wrong, I too have enjoyed the Janissaries and their longer shelf life makes them more useful, but I'm almost dissapointed when it's time to upgrade.
I am never dissapointed when it comes to upgrading Oromos.

More of a trait issue, but the phrasing was inspired by the graphics.
