  • DirectX 10?

A good idea? Is it only for Vista or will XP run it?

"good idea" doesn't really apply here.

Vista uses DirectX 10 (and only DX10, although it will run DX 9 and before code and work on DX9 cards under DX9 protocols).

XP uses DirectX 9.0c, and does not and probably never will run DX10.

How come the directx 10 page (where it lists system requirements) lists XP?

        Good question Wodan...

But as an XP user myself, I plan on sticking with DirectX 9.0C - If it is not broken, don't try to fix it.

          What page?

I'm quite sure that DX10 technology is Vista-specific...

This is the page that you get directed to if you click on the hugemongous DIRECTX 10 page straight from "Games for Windows", then click on "Gamers / Learn More Now", then "Download the Latest DirectX"

Anyway the "Supported Operating Systems" clearly lists all of the incarnations of XP.

You are right Wodan...but if you are an XP user, I still would not advise it. If you do, please don't come here asking why your CIV games are no longer working.

That's because this is the web-based setup application. It will automatically check your Windows version, and download the apropriate DirectX version. If you run it under XP, it will default to 9.0c.

Well, that would answer the question, Modo. Thanks.

That page doesn't even have DirectX 10, it's to allow you to download version 9.21.1148.

That's interesting. BUT, that is the version that you get taken to download if you click to download DirectX v10.

As he said, it downloads whatever version is appropriate for your computer. If you have XP, it will only download 9.0c. For Vista, it will download 10.
