Any thoughts on solving this problem?

Yes. Don't try to save to "My Computer", which is not a valid save location (or any other file location). I'm not sure why it defaults to that (as opposed to your Civ Saved Games directory), but that's your problem.

Thanks, Snoopy, but I didn't ask for the My Computer screen; that's what comes up. How do I get it to go to the Civ Saved games directory?

        IIRC it's in My Documents > My Games >Civ 4 > warlords> Game Saves.

        By default.

        On xp.

So from the my computer, I'ld guess at expanding the C drive, expanding the desktop (if my documents isn't right in the C drive), and go from there.

Right, just treat this like any "Save As..." dialog. My guess is you redirected some file at some point, or the My Games directory folder isn't there for some reason (deleted?).

You can save them wherever you want, though, it's up to you... I think you can set the default in the civilization4.ini file (located in your civ4 directory as a shortcut to the main my games directory). You can also I believe change it to a truly standard save as dialog ('use windows explorer' or something like that) in the civilization4.ini file.

Snoopy, you had it right all along. After you said "My Games directory folder isn't there for some reason (deleted?)" I went looking in My Documents and found to my horror that it was empty! I have years of stuff in there. I think I must have done something while backing it all up a few days ago. Anyway, I got out the external hard drive and put My Documents back in; turned on Warlords; played a few turns and saved and Bingo! back to normal.

Sooner or later I'd have found My Documents empty but thanks to you it worked out a lot faster. Thanks so much.
