  • How do you pair your National Wonders?

Building on a question in another thread, I was wondering how people utilize Nat Wonder combos for maximum effect. Not just the military ones.

I haven't used this one yet, but it seems that National Epic and National Park would be an uber GP pump.

NP and Globe Theater can also be a tremendous GP pump.

i tend to build NE early, when getting specialists makes the most difference. Since its built early its highly unlikely that im going to leave all the forests around it intact (ill probably be farming the land instead) so i dont think NP would go well in that city.

I also like the NP and GT combo in an area with tons of food... great for specialists and GP's

Why would you put Globe Theatre in your NP city? The forest preserves already give you plenty of happiness.

For the Dutch, Maoi Statues + Ironworks is an interesting combo, especially during Golden Ages.

I'd think so, but they arrive so far apart in time that planning for such a thing is almost pointless.

I've done it before with a "wonder" GP farm. You need a lot of grassland forests so your boys can work them up early game.

Again... GT comes a long time before, so I see a lot of time wasted when you could be cranking out the GP

And I've also use MS and IW as my naval crank

                      Sorry, still don't get it.

On the one hand, there's the question of a production city / wonder GP farm vs a food city / specialist GP farm. There are pros and cons on both sides, and in my experience usually come out about the same as far as GPP production goes. We can debate this point but it's really a separate issue.

The second question is whether GT is useful in a production city, which later on builds the NP. Ok, before NP, it's a production city with a buttload of forests, so happiness is not an issue for 2 reasons: it doesn't have a huge excess population to manage, and it can crank out temples etc as needed. Ok, after NP, you are adding a bunch of free specialists to the mix, but at this point you ALSO have the happiness from the preserves. So, no matter how you look at it, the GT is superfluous and it would be much better to combo the NP with some other national wonder. (Personally, I think the NE is a good combo with it, but this is back to point #1 above.)

One can I say... I play a lot of conquest games, so by the time NP becomes available, the game has already been decided.

Early on, a city with a lot of food reaches the happiness cap quickly... HE mixed with GT allows you to quickly (and early on) to build a city with a huge population that can be coverted to specialists and really crank out the GP when you need them most... which in my opinion is earlier in the game.

You mean NE (National Epic = +100% GPP), right? Not HE (Heroic Epic = +100% mil unit production)?

This was what confused me, Ming.

Your latest statement about HE + GT is also VERY confusing.

NE + GT makes much more sense. Is that what you've been trying to say?
