Do I have an invalid game? I can regenerate map only on the first turn.

Yeah... I do remember starting next to Shaka, Monte and Tokugawa (plus Burger King) often, but only because they can be a real pain. I probably don't remember starting next to the wimps, because usually, they aren't next to me for long

Restart != Regenerate... Regenerate is only done on the first turn and gives you the same civ combination, same settings, just a different map. Restart = quit and start a new game...

However, as long as you have your 4000BC Autosave, you can always regenerate the map from that...

I don't regenerate but only because I find it to be quicker just to start a new game. Plus the graphics don't always look right after a regeneration. The shadows on Hills are darker than they usually are.

I haven't noticed that. I'll have to pay attention on my next regeneration.

It doesn't always happen but it annoys me when it does.

I apologize for leaving a banana choice out. I didn't realize it was a requirement.

Since I admitted that I would have regenerated AAHZ's map I guess I have to admit I regenerate here too. Like others, I play for fun. Also I tend to play a 2 continent Hemispheres map and when it screws up and puts me alone on my own subcontinent I regenerate. I also regenerate when the situation is hopeless.

I play for fun, so I definitely regenerate until I like my capital and the surrounding terrain. Actually, the surrounding terrain matters more. A mediocre capital surrounded by good cities is better than a sick capital with horrible cities, imo. I'll also regenerate if I want a certain start, e.g. coastal, hilly, or with stone, though I've found it is generally more efficient, though less fulfilling, to just use worldbuilder.

See, but I just won't go into Worldbuilder to add to my area. That seems like cheating to me (nttiawwt). The only time I will make changes is if the map generator screws up and puts deserts next to rivers without adding the floodplains parts and then I fix every occurance for everyone.

You know I've made a fix for that? It's somewhere on cfc, unfortunately you have to add it to every map script you want to use.

I don't regenerate the map as it doesn't do what I want it to do. I do restart before playing the first turn, but that's because I get a civ I don't want to play as (I don't want to play as Rome, when in my last game I played as Rome). Would be better if regenerate map also randomize which civs are in the game (Ok, then there should probably be a new option just below the regenerate map, that starts a new game, based on the same settings)
This space is empty... or is it?

My capital must be good and my second one OK. But just that.

OK means being able to produce some defense.

Land that wont provide that will be generated. I would save a lot more time with the WB, but I just can't use that part of the game.

Maps that let you start at a river near the coast (with fish+clam) and room for the third city at the same river your capital is at, have raised my expectations a bit too high.

Therefor I have started my games lately, with the intend of moving my capital to better lands when needed. This way more maps have become acceptable (again).

                            Cheers and happy hunting,

                            Michel

I'll regenerate the map if it really hate what would be my starting position considering who I am.

But since I also play Random civs, it's actually a bit more common for me to go further back and get a new civ while I'm at it.
