Maybe they seem weak, but they are cheap to build, and nothing can counter them until fighters show up. Great long-range artillery units, with no risk of losing the investment.
If there was only a scout mission I could assign them too, I'd like them even more.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I rarely build them... but if I do, it's usually for scouting missions. While I also wish you could assign them to "auto" scouting missions, I really wish you could use them to destroy resources instead of just attacking units.
Can't counter them at the time and as said above - cheap to build.
At that stage I can normally pump out 4 in 8 turns at the most from my military city to load up a frontier city for a war. Pretty much a free chance to soften their stack while your machine of war rolls towards it.
I love airships. At some point adding another unit to your SODs adds very little value and airships is a better way to bring more strength to bear on the enemy. They can do alot of damage over time especially to moving stacks with no real risk

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''
I always build airships. They are great for scouting (as previously stated) but I love to have a couple of handfuls of them peck away at units stacked in a city I'm about to assault. Plus you get to upgrade them to fighters, which gives you an automatic air force while your enemies are still building theirs.
I almost never build them. They're probably useful, but they clutter up the map IMO. Actually all air units are annoying in the game.
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Airships are awesome, but I agree, by the time air units are into the game I want peace just to avoid the management issues...
Funny you should say that. By the time airships become available, I'm usually just about ready to go bonking heads.
