  • What happened to culture flipping?

    Hello,

I've come to notice that, ever since I bought BtS ages ago, I haven't had a single city culture flip to me in any of the games I've played. It used to happen about 2-3 times per game but now I find that Civs can build cities right next to mine, which are pumping out culture, and they never flip anymore.

Any ideas? Did BtS change this aspect of the game?

Flipping seems reduced in BTS as compared to vanilla Civ4.

Still, in the game I am playing now as the Dutch (The Terra option for the Tectonics map), I just flipped a Sumerian city that they stuck at the end of the "Iberian peninsula" right next to my capital. (there were a couple of squares not covered by my culture and they beat me to putting a city there.)

The AI is improved. For example, you'll see that the AI will often run caste system or whip theatres, and will run artists to expand cities when they're founded to get the fat cross, or will run them to help prevent culture pressure.

Yep, the AI is good at handling culture now. Thanks to Blake for that too. I have actually had the AI win with Culture victories a couple times now on Monarch. Last game I won a space race by 4 turns before one of the AIs would have had a culture win.

Yup, agreed, the AI is better at it, so I think the mechanic should now be made more unforgiving for both human and AI, let your culture slip to less than 50% and you should start to see real likelihood of flipping.

We can both manage it, so make it something really perilous if you don't.

I can still flip cities, but definitely harder now.

I just had a city flip to me, after one revolt. One with furs, so I didn't complain.

Yeah. Really rather stupid, isn't it.

                    I've never gotten that.

Yes. It turns out I was on a "horseshoe" shaped continent and there was an unseen civ just across the water.
