Worst leader in terms of the AI or the human?

For the AI I'd say Tokugawa, since his isolationist style doesn't work well with the tech trading mechanics of the game.

For the human, probably an Expanionist/Protective civ if one exists.

I believe Mao is now the EXP/PRO civ.

now that i remember I got my first win on Prince Level with Mao and had my largest empire i have ever had. It was earth map and i had asia and the entire American Continent (north and South) as my own. Protective Archer rushed my neighbors (genghis and others) and my EXP = huge cities few pollution. EXP actually works best late game IMO where factories/coal plants wreck havok.

Mao is not a Civ for n00bs and rookies i agree, but in experienced hands on the higher difficulty levels i think he is one of the best. my score was in the tens of thousands, i took a screenshot on my old computer but i didnt transfer everything.

EXP/PRO isn't the greatest, but is still a good trait. EXP speeds up expansion so much it's unreal how fast you can grow.

Which is why the new Washington, with EXP/CHA, is always a powerful civ.

Yeah, EXP/CHA is a *****in' combination. If they had a good UU. I wish they had a decent UU and UB though.

Yeah... I really hate playing in MP games and getting a UU AND UB that won't appear until way after the game has already ended. Especially when you get beat up by somebody with an early and powerful UU like Prats

Flushing your treasury down the drain at the same time. Yay for overexpanding.

Expansionist - half price granaries and half price lighthouses? And double hammers for workers? Sounds only marginally better than Imperalistic. Still, maybe I just need to play Expansionist civs more to get a better feel for them. To me, it's just a bit of a boring trait.

Mao would indeed be my worst civ it seems, although to be fair his UU does make up a lot for his poor traits!

And +2 health. With CHA you get +1/+2 happiness so it's like +2 citizens per city.

Also CHA needs less EXP for units to go up levels. It's a good trait for both war and peace.

EDIT: And it's 1/2 harbors, not lighthouses. IIRC Organized gets 1/2 Lighthouses (why, I dunno).

If EXP were +100% hammers for workers, it would be by FAR the best trait. In BtS they reduced it from +50% to +25% hammers ...

Being able to get those early workers out fast, adding on the bonus granary, and the extra health, means that your cities grow MUCH faster, and get a much larger amount of food/hammers early. That's key to winning the game later on.

I can overexpand and keep a productive civ that can bost tech weel and build ****loads of units. Unlike most people who seem to run into problems after 4 cities...

So why not share your knowledge? I'm sure "most people" would like to know how you do that. I know I would - I tried some games with fewer AI civs lately, and my REX always stalls because of this problem. Maybe not at 4 cities, but still.

                              New Game.

                              Theme: Slow Drawn Out Torture!

                              Settings
                              Civ Holy Roman Empire
                              Map size Standard
                              Terra. Tropical
                              Raging Barbs
                              Aggressive AI
                              No Tech Brokering

There was some discussion about different traits and how some of them were bad. I've been defeating Monarch in several games lately so I've decided to make the move up to Emperor. In addition, I'm gonna suffer the onslaught of hordes of savage barbarians. I have chosen a tropical map for reasons I'm a bit unsure of, but I wanted a lot of rivers. The reason is a secret plan for mid-late game... Anyway, I'm going to use Charlemagne to use Imperialistic to my advantage, as well as Protective.

Anyway, great start. Settled my city popping a small village getting me an extra scout! I have 2 clams and a fish, and a cow and stone all in the fat cross. Potential for a really great city. With so much sea food I go for Fishing. First build is a warrior as one of my scouts got eaten by a panther quite fast.

My other scout meets Ethiopia not too far to my north, shortly after he too fall prey to the fangs of the Panther. I use my warrior to defend against animals on the edge of my borders to get some XP while I build a Fishing Boat. My second tech is Masonry, I want to hook up that stone fast for production.

Expecting a lot of barbs I keep my Warrior on the periphery of my borders on a forest to stand staunch while animals throw themselves at him, he's Woodsman II by now. After 2 Workboats I throw up a worker. I took Archery after Masonry and build an Archer. I know I should be going straight for Bronze Working now, but my paranoia gets the better of me. Since I don't start with mining this results in my Worker standing on his head scratching his crotch for 20 turns after finishing my stone quarry, as my scientists play around trying to get me BW. Good thing I built that Archer, those barbs are coming at me hard! I have to build another one right away it seems... Holy crikey, this is nasty!
