  • Deity win, here I come!!

Yea! I am going to win my first time at Deity. Its my 7 to 9th try, and finally I am going to win. But I dont understand. I am going to win by a landslide win. Point right now are 2827 for me and 2387 for the second Civ.

I dont know what I did different.

Tiny map, 30civs, advance start with romans and 3750points (meaning all other civs had 5000), got pretorians real fast with a 2 city start. Captured 1 city on the 11th turn and kept it until I got riflemen. Then I started kill everyone. I got many wonders, I am tech leader and all. How come?

I played many other games at deity, did the same thing but I always started losing at some point, gett8ing behing on techs and such.

Now it 1700AD and I have modern armors and eating my way to a Domination vic.

Anybody know why? And did you guys ever win at deity?

Congrats on that, Spec. I'd be happy to just survive that long on Emperor. Oh, yeah, post screenies, please.

The more crowded, the easier. Same as Civ3 (for a change).

Best guess is how much the ai went to war as opposed to trading.

If they trade, you fall behind in tech. Get them all warring on each other, and they are typically ineffective and just end up spinning their wheels and slowing their own research.

Depending on the wonders, that very well played a large role too. With smaller maps, fewer cities, specialists and GP tend to be more powerful.

How? Asking seriously here. I used to win games this way in Civ3, but in CIV, I can't get the AI to bonk heads on my bahalf - not the strong ones that could really do some damage, anyway.

Luck. I've never managed to influence it either. But I have had games where the AI just goes bonkers and starts attacking each other, then other AI's join in on either side, and it becomes a jumbled mess and you just sit back and pick off stragglers.

"Aggressive AI" tends to help somewhat.

But isn't that the whole point, them not doing damage?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

well thats how you did it. the more civs, the easier the game, by far. once you conquer one other capital its a landslide. not to mention the AI doesnt handle advanced starts particularly well.

Tiny map with 30 civs? Is there even room for one regular BFC each in that, let alone a second city for everyone? Deities start with 2 Settlers even without an advanced start and that's part of their goodness right there. If you handicap them by using an advanced start and unfairly holing them in you can't consider it a "real" win.

Try a regular game without handicapping the AI like that and then you can consider yourself winning on Deity.

No, they are supposed to do major damage. To my enemies, that is.

Yeah, i must agree to most of the posters here: Though i wouldnt say, that i was a better player than the OP, tweaking the game settings to such an extreme just to be able to win at a high difficulty is not my style really (to stay nice and not say anything about posting it here).

It´s a little bit like claiming to be a magician when you boil water below 100°C - in a high-pressure environment. Play under (somewhat) normal conditions, and if you win in those at deity, you might have something to brag about (tho still not really IMHO - not that i even ever tried - i play for fun)

Well, Shaka started gaining on me yesterday...I had +/- 2840 points around 5pm yesterday and he had 2530....after 3 hours, I had +/- 3150 and he had 3002...He left me no choice. Shaka got nuked. Now the whole planet hates my guts.

Tweaking the game? What would be the purpose of tweaking the game when you can play lower levels....like Prince?

And I play for fun too, but emperor is just to damn easy. Immortal is my level. But deity is insane. Comp starts with 2 workers, 3 archers, 2 scouts and 2 settlers...All we get is 1 warrior and a settler.
