Usually, once I get the heroic epic built, that city just builds units, which get upgraded as needed with cash. You build up a military over time, so once you get to 2-3 stacks of 10-12 units each you can start picking off the AI's.

I usually play SP, Large or Huge, marathon or epic, whichever is longest, so you have alot of time.
Of course if you are running Bureaucracy, you don't want to put the Heroic Epic in your capital with that sort of strategy (you'd probably prefer to build wonders and the like instead there)

are you guys using the agressive AI?

If i only have 2 defensive units in my border cities, I'm considered the rubber ball that all the dogs on the block have to chew on continuiously.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Couldn't agree more, and you don't need to have aggressive AI on for that. I play regular AI on Noble and wouldn't dream of only having 1-2 units a city unless I was desperately seeking to lose. It doesn't matter if it's 2 infantry a city vs. the AIs longbowmen, they will declare war, and the numbers will win the day if you don't start building reinforcements with a quickness.

Blake: Don't be sorry, you did great work. The AI is both more challenging and feels less like it is cheating (cause it does "cheat" less.) And the different leaders still have different personalities to boot. Love your AI.
You've just proven signature advertising works!

In the words of Dory from Finding Nemo, "Just keep swimming." I still have my 3.5" copy of Civilization 1 handy and I am JUST now going to win on Noble for the first time. Assuming the surplus resources I am giving to Tokugawa manage to sway his opinion of me enough to vote me towards my first ever diplomatic victory.

Reading your post is like deja vu. I had the same problems having been a builder mostly at lower levels. Unfortunately, that style suffers as you go up in levels. You must (and I mean must) keep your power up or the AI will come hunting no matter how much they tell you they love you (kinda like divorce). You can still be a builder without going to war with the AI but you have to be a threat or the AI attacks. As an aside, you need to be a little more linear in research paths. Trading Techs becomes more of a necessity. Good luck.

You can say that again. Before you and your improved and smarter AI, I was able to beat noble 98% of time...

Now, my odds are around 40%. And sometimes I have to regenerate...

Despite that, thank you Blake... Great work.
