  • built my first melee character turn 91 on monarch

hi...i waited till turn 91 to make my first melee unit...and now i've got 4 city's two wonders and i'm kicking butt. I just got alphabet or education or somesuch...and saved it.

    Try that with Raging Barbarians.

      i have

i have tried raging barbarians and found I like it but...

I can do it on prince and not monarch and i like the diplomatic side of monarch. with raging barbarians it seems that if and when you 'get through it till you get axemen' if your doing well then prince is too easy and monarchy is too tough for me at that point.

      thnx for reply.

Anyways a start like that is naturally good if you have enough stuff to build but usually one has to atleast build a warrior or two (melee!) to send as escorts for settlers and perhaps explore. It's also possible that you just researched archery and had sent archers instead? In 91 turns one would be good to have quite a few cities up and running (depending on game speed, of course) and you can't really send settlers to the wolves now can you?

I don't like Raging Barbarians myself either, since even without them I get the nasty uprisings way too often.

What are your game and map settings?

You must not have a rival nearby, or else they would sense your lack of strength and pounce.

What units did you build to defend your cities?
And indeed there will be time To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?". t s eliot

            i use: standard settings except:

            two continents/epic speed/huge map

i had stone nearby and made a worker first...then made the great wall and didn't worry about barbarians.

then i made pyramids right away too, maybe a bit premature... then i made warrior i think then settler...etc

i usually make a warrior first but i wanted to test things out.
