Fun with Tokugawa

So just to check, I saved the game and attacked. And as i suspected Currasais just posed too much of a threat. So I reloaded and decided to settle in until Industrialization.

As soon as I discovered Steel, I traded it off to everyone for all the techs I was lacking, education Corporation etc. with the exception of Scientific method and where it leaded i was instantly caught up in techs. Kept right on researching to railroad. I had captured 5 more stacks of workers (6 workers per stack for the 1 turn road build.) wich gave me 6 total stacks. Once railroad finished those workers got to work, railing the mines and conecting my empire. City defense crossbows upgrade nicely to machine guns. then i researched rifling, As noone else had actually gotten it yet. and then on to assembly line. It took roughly 40 - 50 turns to turn my economy around completely, from 20% tech to 80%. Hammers are king.

I was the able to upgrade my stack of doom to Infantry before anyone else had riflemen. Zara and Bizmark however did have machine guns also. Fascism gives me yet another general wich settles in my capital. Pentagon completes followed by west point to augment the capitals heroic epic. The persian capital gets ironworks, saladins capital gets national epic and the national park, to generate me some nice great people.

Trade off assembly line to my vassals (wich gets me a few techs i was lagging on from mansa) and I start on flight, electricity, Industrialism, and radio. Now we have what we need to continue the push.

After a few turns of buildup, to get tanks into play its time to rock'n'roll.

I send my main stack at Zara's Tarsus. that nice little blockage city at the 1 square land bridge in the south. My tanks and bombers i use to keep the german units from doing anything but healing. Tarsus falls with no problems, and i move back towards germany (hanibal apparently left the Ethiopians and i didnt need to fight him too, very nice.)

I Raze a fresh city Bizmark dropped on his northern border and capture his northernmost city. Mansa had captured his eastern city then the Apostolic palace forces peace, I suppose i could have defied but who needs the unhappiness.

This gives me 10 more turns of buildup. Those barbar cities had been captured by ethiopia some years earlier, so i made an amphib force to clear it off.

Mecca gives me both a merchant and a scientist wich i used to found sid's sushi and aluminum corp in Osaka.

After the 10 turn hold, I redeclare with a few more tanks and Germany falls rapidly. The Amphib force clears the island north of my capital and peace is made with all of the land west of the bottleneck now my own.

On the second blitz of germany, my city attack infantry didnt even get to join the fight... all those xp points wasted until mech infantry, so sad. Tanks and bombers just get the job done so fast, a 1 move unit cant keep up.

And thats where i left off last night, I'll play it over the weekend I'm sure, but no more intraweb until wed... now you all HAVE to give it a try.

Your continent seems to be full of weaklings and there's a nice reward in the end from capturing Athens and the Hindu Mandir.

Seems like you're going to have your hands full with Zara and the ladies though. Are they in good terms with each other?

If I were you I'd conquer the Carthaginians, Greeks, Mayas and the Americans with haste and start preparing moving on the Ethiopians. I'd probably go and raze his capital and his best coastal cities and then withdraw and prepare for a new attack.

Thanks for the screenies. The game looks like good fun and I'm really going to try a similar one with Ragnar when i get the chance, with a maritime theme, of course.

How are you going to proceed with the game? I hope there's screenies in it for me

I finished it of course, I'm at work so I'm loadin up the pics and text as I can, should be a quiet day and I'll finish it up soon.

BTW Ragnar is my current game. Wasn't as nautical as I imagined it would be, my neighbors built a bunch of wonders so I ended up just conquering my mainland. Of course I'm almost fully industrialized so things are about to change.

The next war happened quickly, just enough time to get to the border and heal up. This time I seperate my units into 2 stacks, the 2 movers in 1 stack and slowbies in another. The new bomber rules are a little harsh, but I have 3 cities within range, but thats only 12 aircraft I can bring into the fight. I have them concentrate on the northern cities for my tanks, and I send my arty and infantry south.



My amphib strike force Hits his northern most City and takes it easily, 6 fighters and some arty breaks up the few units defending so my marines can take it with no losses.



A new General pops and I attach it to one of my city attack tanks.



I airlift a defensive unit into my northern most city and the marines head inland and take another city.



Michel Ruyteir shows Hanibal Barca the power of a 3 move city attack blitz unit.



I break a few units off in each direction, and with the help of bombers and my carrier fleet, the remainder of his cities fall in turn, thus removing yet another obstacle in my way.



The end is so close I can taste it.

I can't wait to get back to my own computer so I can get started with playing again! I'm thinking of playing games with themes though, nothing as fancy as taking over the world with Togugawa - although I suspect that the game will steer to that direction especially when playing with Ragnar and his Berserkers.

I've long had the "goal" of having the entire world settled civ2 style. I remember having every single spot of the map under my rule and having gone through the city name list 3(?) times, a feat I haven't been able to perform even once in IV. Not even close. I suppose I'll try a game in which I'll raze all but the most important enemy cities and try to settle the entire map (Large or Huge Pangaea) to see if it's possible. And I'm not going to do it with HRE either!

Looking forward to the conclusion of the Togugawa game. I'd assume that taking on the other continent is no simple feat seeing that they're all techers and faring well on score. No saveloading!

Now Pacal and Lincoln are both vassals of my old friend Zara. Each time I had war with Yaqob, Mecca bore the brunt of his navy. With Battleships, destroyers, and transports now roaming the seas, I think it prudent to build up a decent defense force in Mecca. I'm sure his galleons were too slow to show themselves before, but now, things will likely come faster.

So I wait. Mobile arty isnt far off, so I set that as the target. Yaqob however had other plans. He declares war on poor old Pericles. Unknown to me at this time, his own attack stack is in town causin its own trouble.

Once Mobile arty is upgraded its game time. 2 decent stacks are ready, 1 for Lincoln, one for Pacal. My amphib force stands ready on the city Zara stole from the americans. This should be a cake walk....



The Blitz heads in, Bombers bare the brunt of my losses. American fighters take a heavy toll, however with the new artillery its now the bombers that are obsolete.

Once i get north a little ways I see it, Zara's stack. He had just captured a greek city but now he turns towards me. Now most of my extra defense units are around mecca, I had very few to spend on my new captured cities, so I was spread thin, a single defender plus what ever tanks and choppers needed healing defended each city. His stack of cavalry infantry and a couple of tanks then head into my rear and start doing some seriose damage. 2 freshly captured cities fall to him and Lincoln recaptures another in the ensuing confusion. However once I finished off pacal that allowed a full stack to head back and clean up. The see-saw battle ends with zara's continental holdings at 1 greek city and lincolns capital alone holding out.

A quick double attack on Washington leaves Zara all alone and defensless, he wisely accepts very favorable terms and so ends another war.

Now Only one civ remains on my land that isnt bowing to my will. Now after the fiasco of Zara's rampage, I think it prudent to let some culture pop in my new cities. Sid's sushi and creative constructions should make this happen rather quickly, but we still need to wait the 12+ turns of resistance out.

My empire is quite large. Its also possible this game might already be won.



Few turns later, cultures start popping and things are looking good., then Once the land fills up I have a look and....



Oh... Well sorry Periclese, its nothing personal ya know.





Those shiney new Mechanized units sure are nice... It'll be fun to really make the world pay with these incredibly well promoted super weapons of destructio.....



Oh... well darn. Maybe Next game I'll stay nice and timid until the very end so I can actually use the 'cool' units.

I have 0, ZERO, nil, none, nothing going into research, 100% slider on cash and I'm still teching almost 3000

11 food = 5.5 specialist per city. under representation 5.5 x 3 = 16.5 beakers (doubled if you do all scientists)

Modify that even more for the buildings, thats 30 - 40 beakers each city (60 - 80 for scientists) just for having that extra food.
