I had an event today- good ol' Hurricane hits x city (new york) and I have a 'choice' lose buildings or lose people. Well from past experience when I lose buildings from a hurricane they're the good ones, and my people were breeding faster than wilderbeest in heat so I chose people. Or at least I tried to. The game wouldn't let me pick people!! After clicking on it about a dozen times I reluctantly chose buildings, and wouldn't you know, I lose my forge AND my aqueduct- which REALLY sucked b/c New York is going to be my Great Engineer city and I was trying to build the Gardens. So I had to start all over w/ the forge and aqueduct & right now I don't know if I'll get it. So is that a bug? It isn't the 1st time I've been forced to choose a result I didn't want. The city had 5 or 7 population.. does that factor into the matter?

Event issue- is it a bug?
I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- NedTags: None

I've seen the same thing every time I get that event. It has NEVER let me choose the "People are killed" option, even with a city that has a 20+ population. Strangely, I've had a hurricane hit a city that was on the southern shore of the continent within a couple of squares of the polar ice cap.Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

The only time it has let me kill people is when the city has no improvements. I've had it happen to a city I've just conquered and then it let me kill one of the citizens. Perhaps the game expects you to value the lives of your lemmin.. eh, citizens more than your buildings."The state is nothing but an instrument of oppression of one class by another--no less so in a democratic republic than in a monarchy."

But then why have the option? It would presumably make more sense to have the event state which one of the two inevitable results has actually happened, rather than pretending that there is a choice. The undeserving maintain power by promoting hysteria.
