Yeah, Mansa is dangerous. He'll be your ally for most of the game, the suddenly turn on you late-game when you're not expecting it

How about the Ethiopean leader, Yara Yacob? He's been a real technology powerhouse in my current game and hates me to bits.
I can't seem to get through a game without meeting Monte and Izzy either - who I can never make friends with.
It makes it hard when I'm trying to get an AP win and these 2 are the only ones without my religion....

playing the persians I was whooping my neighbours in early days with my immortals against archers. took a city here, and a city there, then turned to Mansa cause he was developing waaaaaay too fast. those damned skirmishers did a smackdown on my immortals and I lost all momentum militarywise and had trouble recovering ever since. and he's always outteching me!
also dont like monty or shaka. they tend to have armies so vast that even when they're a whole era behind mine they can take my stuff on sheer numbers.

true what you say Yosho. I had a tank charge blunted by airships once... now that was annoying. he kept damaging my tanks and wiping them out with cavalry. and I also seem to be quite unlucky, even if I only fight battles with 75% i still seem to lose about 50% of the time. and since my units are normally more expensive and advanced, I'm actually losing out. otoh, I've learned a lot since then.Diplogamer formerly known as LzPrst

Sending multiple semi large stacks against a large stack seems to work well. The AI will usually concentrate on only one of the stacks. Sure, they may wipe it out, but it will use most or all of its seige units up in the process. This allows the second stack of superior units to pretty much wipe out all the rest of his units.
If I have a bunch of old units that I'm not going to upgrade, I like creating a stack with them and sending them ahead of the stack of superior units. The stack of old units will bleed away a bunch of his seige units and allow my newer units to do pretty much whatever they want after thatKeep on Civin'

Gilgamesh can be very dangerous. So in recent times I have tried to play as him to see why the AI handles him so well. I was quite surprised that by just slightly modifying my old disused hybrid strategy I was able to win consistently on king and about a quarter of the time on emperor. In some games I got into very strange situations though.
Namely, I once got into a total war with Tokugawa that lasted a millennia starting at 800AD.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

I actually like Mansa, he'll trade with me.
It's Tokugawa I can't stand; he normally won't even open the borders let alone trade.1st C3DG Term 7 Science Advisor 1st C3DG Term 8 Domestic Minister

The last game I played had both of those guys. Mansa kept going up and down in power. Not that I really noticed what he was doing as he was on the otherside of the continent. I ended up having to be friends with both the Japanese and the Mongols because they were the only ones who shared my religion. The others were all Buddhists. There's one problem with being friends with those guys. They go to war a lot and expect you to join them. Everyone else was pretty much furious with me the entire game. What's worse, Tokugawa had such a small, weak empire. He had no right to declare war on anyone. Somehow he escaped capitulation with Mansa and asked to be vassal of me. That at least kept him in check. Next I forced the mongols to capitulate. Hey, vassals are better than friends.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. Saladin. He always beelines for an early religion, and I always do too, which means we start with different religions. Then he goes to theocracy before I can get missionaries into his cities, and he stays there for the entire game. He demands you change to his religion more than any other AI.
He's been in my last 3 games, he's been the strongest or second strongest AI in all, and he's hated me the entire time. In the last game, I used spies & missionaries to infect every city of his with my religion, and he still wouldn't change over.
I decided after the last game he's now KOS if he founds a religion.Fitz. (n.) Old English
