  • Whats YOUR favorite way to play this game (settings)

Just Curiose how most of you regulars like to play your SP games, whats the most entertaining settings that you have tried.

90% of my games are generally Monarch, Huge Fractal maps, Marathon speed (because its the only REAL setting) with 18 civs. Aggresive AI about half the time. Perm alliances on, require complete kills.

Now Once in a while i turn on No tech trading and set custom continents to 1 per player and have 2 - 4 other civs only. This is a good way to test my growth vs economy skillz.

But alas my very favorite, I save when the game really upsets me is the first setting but play as Tokagawa. Civil Service slingshot followed by a run on Machinery (however its a Code of laws sling with maxed scientist research towards CS now... ) Even with the mathamatics addition i was able to crank them Samarai out before 1ad... Then i just go on a killing spree and conquer the world asap... Ill post some nice Screen shots i saved up tomarow...

*Prince (soon to be Monarch, once I get round to playing a new game)
    *Standard sized map
*Tectonics, Big and Small, Terra2, Earth3, or Refar's Random Map script
*Normal speed--you know, the only BALANCED setting :-)
    *Aggressive AI
    *City flipping after conquest
    *No Tech Brokering
    *(sometimes) Raging Barbarians

      Using jkp1187's format for comparability

      *Monarch-Emperor with the occasional Immortal-Deity
      *Standard sized map
      *Up to 15 AI
      *Pangaea, Terra, Hemispheres, Great Plains
      *Marathon
      *Choose Religions
*Random civilization (I remake when I get protective or one of the few other leaders I don't like at all)

I must ask you though, jkp; What is this Terra2 or Earth3 you refer to? Is there a Standard Sized Earth map out there somewhere? Or a Large one? I find Huge map to eat my computer alive and take ages so I steer clear of that.

          Terra2: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showth...02#post6233602
Standard Terra map, with civ starting locations governed by the script from LDiCesare's "Tectonics" script.

          Earth3: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=253927
This is a script that mimics the Terra script, except it tries to force the lands created to look somewhat like the real Earth. Also with the civ starting locations governed by LDiCesare's Tectonics script.

          Refar's Random Script Chooser:
This is a Suffle-script, that will actually choose at random from a list of different map scripts. This way we can expect good results, by choosing which scripts to include in the list, but without knowing for sure what the map will look like. Scripts Included are: Archipelago, Fractal...

This script randomly chooses from a variety of scripts -- goes beyond the basic Pangaea, Archipelago, Continents of the "Shuffle" script.

I generally play Noble, so I don't have to try very hard.

              Small or Standard
Archipelago/Snaky continents, often low water level
Standard number of civs or maybe +2
Permanent Alliances on, No tech brokering, raging barbs, aggressive AI

                      - Hemispheres/Continents/Snaky... haven't really decided what I like best
                      - Tech brokering but thinking of changing as this can annoy me
                      - Agressive AI sometimes
                      - Raging barb sometimes

Re: no tech brokering, does it make the game much easier? Would I want to raise the difficulty level if I tried this?

The odds of getting any one civ three times in a row are 1/34 ^ 2. The odds of getting a specific civ three times in a row are 1/34 ^ 3.
