  • Did you ever know that you're my hero (and other odd remarks)

Shaka said this to me the other day when I was playing as Isabel, founded Hinduism and shortly after accepted his demand to convert (free diplomacy points). It just struck me as being quite odd that he quotes from 20th century lyrics to a western (as in the culture) song. Not that I mind really, he had a very rich baritone voice so the song itself was not entirely unpleasant. It might not really have been considered an appropriate way to celebrate our new-found religious bond.

Talking of strange things that CIV says to me, I also had a warrior killed “trying” to attack a lion. Now if it wasn’t worse losing my lone warrior to a weaker foe, the shame was even greater when I found out that they had died through some form of clumsiness in some sort of attempt to attack. What it was that actually killed the warrior I was never told. Possibly the lions did kill them but I rather imagine the lion being disabled by a fit of laughing at my inept military unit tripping over their clubs and fallen of a large rock.

I personally would prefer a return to the Civ II-style diplomacy, which was much more serious and grand, the cartoony approach doesn't work too well for me.

Try as i might, i can not even remember the civ-ii-diplomacy - probably because i didnt conduct much of it in Civ 2, cause the AI would gang up against me anyways. They played as if one. But i do agree that sillyness doesnt exactly add to the atmosphere (i´d like to see) in civ.

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I think Ragnar wanted me to adopt monarchy because "all the cool civ's are doing it". Ragnar doesn't know cool.

Didn't civ 2 have a video of an emissary talking to you? I can't really remember either.

There was an animated herald, but I suspect most people turned it off.

My favorite advisor was the war advisor... if you were kicking butt, he was drunk and just told you to carry on.
