When there is a spy icon next to a leader's score, what does it mean?

How are my leader's scores calculated?

The spy icon appears when you reach a certain level of espionage with that civilization. Not sure what but it's probably either that you've got more espionage points than him or that you've reached the first level of espionage with him and so can see his demographics.

The scores are calculated from a combination of population, wonders and technologies that your civ has. You can hover over your score to see what it's comprised of.
