    Obsoleting the AP?

    I've played several games when late in the game I would end up taking over the city which had the AP religion and the AP would start making me do things that I don't want to do.

    When this happens I would actually research mass media and gift it to the AP holder so I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

    I'm just wondering if I am the only person who does this or this actually a viable strategy?

    Spread the religion to all your other cities, if you have enough population you will start making the AI do this and that. You need to have that religion as your state religion, if you are running another religion and/or Free Religion then you will be able to only block unwanted decisions.

    Actually having a city with the AP religion is better than the alternative. Otherwise the AP resident may decide to declare holy war on you and then you will be face against multiple enemies at once (i.e. everybody that has that religion).

    I prefer to spread the religion and block the AP that way than to give away technology, but it also work.

    A good question is why the AP can make you do this or that is you already have the Mass Media. MM should give you some form of immunity.

      I find that Cavalry or Cossacks work well in obsoleting the AP.

      The thing drives me insane in some games......

      But no - I have never tried that - but it may be another way out of a hole.....

All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

            You could always disable the cultural victory option. Then the AP can't be built. Personally I think it's great though!
