  • Quest of the Blessed Sea

I've just failed this quest, despite having fulfilled all the criteria - can anyone explain what's going on?

Maybe I should post a save...

    save file

    ... attaching save in progress

First up check the quests (press TAB then click quests). Then just finish turn and the failed quest message comes up.

Hmm, I can't attach the save (628kb) using the upload service.

Has anyone else had issues with this quest?
    regards,

    Peter

My problem with this was that it asked me to found cities on seven new landmasses. However, there were only five landmasses in my game. (Small Hemishperes map: two continents; three small islands; all other islands were mountains).

The quest was doomed from the start.

How many landmasses did you have to settle? That's all you have to do to win.

If completed successfully, you choose from:

    1) Establish your religion in x cities.
    2) Free temple in any city with 5+ pop. (who have state religion)
    3) Free Great Prophet.

I had to settle 13 which I did (that turn). I didn't change religion, nor had I reached industrialisation. very weird...

Hard to tell without a save. What levels and leader were you playing? What map and size?

          Two questions:

          1) Did you succeed in the quest by the time limit? (Most quests specify that they must be achieved before reaching a particular era.)

          2) Is it possible that another civ beat you to the quest, thereby causing you to fail?

well don't think so - there aren't enough island cities settled by anyone else

I've posted a save in the first message, but just had a thought - Peter (Russia) got to Sci Meth (ie. industrialisation) one or two turns previously. could this cause me to fail?
            regards,

            Peter

You probably upgraded/lost the galley that triggered the quest. For some reason that causes the quest to fail.

Interesting. I didn't see that cause for failure anywhere.

Well, upgrading causing it to fail is a bug. I believe that losing it is supposed to be a valid "fail" condition, however (although you're right, it's not listed). But the quest is actually given specifically to one galley.

In terms of the quest, does it matter if the quest is "assigned" to a galley or a city?

Would it be possible, for example, to just assign the quest to a specific city (e.g., "Theologians in believe that our god wants us to found cities on every continent...") That way, the quest can't just fail because the galley gets upgraded or destroyed?

Just seems a bit bogus to fail the quest because of a galley, and if changing the quest just slightly will make it work, I'm all for that.

Well, I've fixed the bug with upgrading. The quest will still fail if the unit gets destroyed, however. Personally, I don't think that's a problem - it just should be mentioned in the text so that you are aware of it.

Also there should be some note on the unit itself.

                          That's a very odd mechanic.

I've always considered that one "Quest of the Useless Waste of Time".

                            So much effort required.

So little reward for your work.

                            Me.

It just seems odd that I should fail the quest the turn after I found my 12th and 13th cities (on a separate landmass). I'll check the galley issue, but is there an indication of which galley it would be?

                              Thanks all for the feedback
