Civ IV very slow can't uninstall

I was playing it for the last week - smaller games.

Failed today when I put in Disk 1, said please insert correct disk.

Explorer shows all files there.

I then took the advice and removed the registry keys for Firaxis.

Install shield still blows up.

I have both installed and uninstalled other products before using Install Shield.

I'm not changing my whole PC or re-installing XP just for one game though.

What a disappointment....

since Install Shield blows up - is there a place to install a new version of Install Shield for free?
Again, I hate to go down this road. Everything else is working fine - the problem is Civ4.
I might be willing to re-install Installshield, but not if it will risk causing problems with other programs that Installshield has previously installed for me.
And I'm not re-installing XP - the problem is Civ 4!

disgusting to spend so much time with it, have it work on and off, and now this.
