Played a game yesterday, and didn't eradicate monty like i usualy would since he was acting kind of friendly hahahaha.
When he declared war he moved in a stack with 54 rifles 64 calvary and considerably many obsolete units. He was short on tribs but didn't really nead them.

I thought I was prepared but 25 grens, 20 rifles, 10 cal and 8 cannons just didn't cut it.

Must remind myself to eradicate vermin earlier.

Granted this was a land based attack but it give you the idea of what can be done. I've seen that stack of 20 transports headed my way before.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
RIP Tony Bogey & Baron O

Yeah, you have to actively keep on eye out for that sort of thing. "Friendly" indeed

I had Shaka pull that stunt on my in my current game (well, he was "Annoyed", not "Friendly"). My sub network spotted him 2 turns from my coast, and he was mincemeat. You definitely have to actively protect your coast in BTS.

I remember in Civ III, a friendly power would often stumble across one of my submarines and instantly declare war and destroy it.

I don't usually use many subs in Civ IV, because I tend to find them too weak to be very effective, so I haven't had it happen so far, but has anybody else? Does this still happen?
        I don't know what I've been told!
        Deirdre's got a Network Node!

I use subs a lot for screens/early warning detection between landmasses. I have never had a friendly AI declare war after finding one of my subs. Not Yet .
And indeed there will be time To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?". t s eliot
