A take-no-prisoner approach seems to be the only viable way....
I would suggest that you post a 4000BC save from a continents map starting witha random civ on prince, and ask a number of people to play through it and write during action reports...so that posters can say what they did and why and what happened because of the choices they made. This will provide advice that is alot more usful than the very simple statement " build a strong economy, get a tech lead, and usually pick a neighbour to wipe off the map pre-Gunpowder"...
